Hibernating Duckweeds

Small is beautiful, and in the case of this submerged duckweed (Lemna trisulca L.) also plentiful. I found these minuscule plants, measuring only a few mm in length, floating just below the ice in a pond outside Oslo, Norway. A flash in conjunction with a macro lens on my Nikon F3 captured the innate beauty of these floating gems.
